September 2007-July 2009
As a freshman at Brigham Young University-Idaho I was awarded a scholarship through the Heber J. Grant Program. To give back for the help I had received, my second semester I mentored an incoming freshman, and served as mentor for many semesters. Later, I was invited to be involved in designing the online training for a pilot off-campus mentoring program, designed to help underprivileged children in inner city areas and encourage them towards college by having a BYU-Idaho student who, had overcome similar challenges, server as mentor. The goal of the program was to give Heber J. Grant scholars a way to reach out to high school aged students and help them prepare for and enter college, therefore increasing the reach of the standing mentoring program.
